Hometown Health Heroes

Kansans, by inheritance, are extraordinary people. Common sense, a pioneer spirit, and hard work define true Kansans. Even so, there are those exemplary individuals who shine all the brighter thanks to their amazing accomplishments. Hometown Health Heroes are such people.

The Governor’s Council on Fitness and HealthyKansas have teamed up to bestow the prestigious Governor’s Hometown Health Hero Award on Kansans who have made highly significant contributions to their communities by promoting healthy lifestyles such as increasing activity levels, eating a healthy diet, or reducing tobacco use.

Hometown Health Heroes are the most exceptional of health role models. They have made such an impact on their community’s health over such a time that the only suitable way to describe them is "hero."

Often as humble as they are motivated, we need your help in identifying these rare Hometown Health Heroes to bring them deserved recognition as well as a platform to spread their inspirational story statewide.

The award recognizes volunteerism across time that impacts large segments of the community. Individuals who promote healthy lifestyles as part of their professional careers are still eligible to receive this award. For such individuals it should be demonstrated that he or she has performed exceptional community volunteerism beyond the expectations of a paid position.
